Our partner & our inspiration
The Kuaya is a Malaysian entity, created under the auspices of The Soke, a UK-based centre launched in October 2020. In 2021 The Soke became the first centre in its category to be rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, the national regulator of medical & social care services. It was recognised not just for the quality of its service, but for its strategic approach to developing easy to access assessment pathways so individuals and families could quickly access the most appropriate type and level of care.
Over four years, The Soke has become known as the standard bearer for a new kind of behavioural health service that is built on principles of innovation, holistic support, collaboration and generosity. The team has grown from four to ninety across two centres and their territorial footprint has expanded through contractual relationships with private hospitals and other organisations offering their patients and employees access to onsite mental healthcare.
The Soke is proud, through its first international partnership, to provide its best-in-class clinical and service model as the blueprint for The Kuaya.
The principals of The Kuaya are a young Malaysian-Canadian couple, Siti and Liam Sloane. Deeply impressed by the quality and accessibility of mental health services they experienced while living in London, they felt inspired to bring that same level of care back home to Kuala Lumpur. Moved by the holistic, stigma-free approach practiced in the UK - where therapy, early intervention, and community-based support were integrated seamlessly - they saw the potential to revolutionise mental health care in Malaysia. Recognising a gap in both public understanding and professional resources, they committed themselves to adapting the clinical model they encountered abroad to fit local cultural contexts, aiming to create a safe, inclusive space where mental well-being is prioritised and normalised.
