Dr. Shermaine Sim, Psychiatrist

Dr. Shermaine Sim Su Tein holds an MBBS and DrPsych from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and has over fifteen years of experience in psychiatry, specializing in child, adolescent, and adult mental health.


Her career has encompassed clinical practice, public health leadership, and mental health systems development. Most recently, she served as Mental Health Lead at UNICEF Malaysia, where she developed and implemented evidence-based mental health programs across healthcare, education, and community settings. Her work has involved collaborating with government agencies, educational institutions, and healthcare providers to strengthen mental health and psychosocial support systems. Her approach integrates comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment with culturally informed psychosocial support, drawing on experience across tertiary care institutions, primary healthcare facilities, and community-based settings.


She has contributed to policy development, clinical training programs, and implementation of scalable mental health interventions aimed at improving service accessibility and quality. Her work emphasizes evidence-based practice, cultural relevance, and the integration of mental health support within broader healthcare and social systems. Currently she also serves on the board of the Malaysian Youth Development Research Institute (IYRES).
