Aphasia, Dyslexia & Dyspraxia
We understand that aphasia, dyslexia, and Dyspraxia are neurological or developmental conditions that affect communication, learning, and coordination. Aphasia impairs language abilities, Dyslexia affects reading, spelling, and decoding, and Dyspraxia impacts motor planning and coordination. While these conditions present challenges, they do not reflect intelligence or potential, and with tailored support — often guided by an Educational Psychologist — individuals can develop strategies to thrive in everyday life.
Aphasia
Aphasia is a language disorder that impacts speaking, understanding, reading, or writing. It most commonly occurs after a stroke or brain injury but can arise from other neurological conditions. While thoughts remain clear, expressing them can be difficult. Early intervention is crucial to prevent isolation and support confidence in communication.
At The Kuaya, we provide structured therapy and strategies to help manage aphasia, restoring as much independence in language use as possible. This may involve exercises, assistive tools, and practical guidance for both individuals and their families.
Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning difference that affects reading, spelling, and sometimes writing and organisation. It is not linked to intelligence but to differences in how the brain processes language. Those with Dyslexia often need tailored teaching methods, structured support, and strategies to make learning more accessible and less frustrating.
We work with educational psychologists to identify the best approaches for managing Dyslexia, including specialist literacy programmes, assistive technology, and strategies to build confidence and independence in reading and writing tasks.
Dyspraxia
Dyspraxia (developmental coordination disorder) affects movement, coordination, and sometimes planning and organisation. People with Dyspraxia may struggle with fine motor skills, balance, or everyday tasks, and may also experience overlaps with learning difficulties or Dyslexia.
Our team supports individuals with Dyspraxia through practical strategies for improving coordination and daily functioning. We work closely with occupational therapists and educators to create routines and interventions that help manage challenges and build confidence.
